Arkansas sues Kalshi, says Razorbacks bets are gambling
The CFTC has sued at least 10 states, claiming sole jurisdiction over prediction markets.
The hit
Arkansas attorney general Tim Griffin has sued Kalshi, arguing that betting on whether the Razorbacks win is plainly gambling. Griffin alleges Kalshi runs an illegal gambling platform that lets users wager on “just about anything”.
Why it matters
The case pits state gambling law against Kalshi’s claim that its event contracts are federally regulated derivatives, not bets. A win for Arkansas could, in theory, hand states fresh ammunition to restrict Kalshi’s sports-linked markets even as the CFTC fights to keep that turf for itself.
The record
